Would you accept Gov't honours?

Post by XIII »

I don't know if you saw this recent news that Jacques Tardi, one of France's most famous cartoonists, and widely published in English in the last few years, turned down the country's highest civilian honour:

I was wondering what would you do if some day you happen to be the recipient of some British equivalent:

It's a far-fetched possibility, not because you wouldn't deserve it, but because of the huge difference in cultural appreciation for the comics medium in both countries. Still I can't help wondering what you think about Tardi's attitude and what you would do in a similar situation.

It’s easy to decline something you haven’t been offered but as a rule I’m not impressed by awards of any kind.
Most are given to support a particular regime/philosophy/perspective/taste/opinion, that is supported or being promoted by the award giver.
