Inking

Post by vf65 »

Hi Alan,

When you do ink, what tools do you use? And have you tried digital inking (not just using level and curves, but actual inking).

Thanks,
Vladimir

Hi Vladimir

I have always regarded inking as the final stage of drawing so it is usually pretty spontaneous and crude-- certainly compared to Mark farmer’s liquid lines.

When I regularly inked my own work-- long, long ago-- I used an Osmoroid sketch pen for the bulk of the linework. Then I erased the pencils and used a brush to beef-up lines where necessary and add solid blacks.

I have toyed with digital inking but never used it professionally.

Thanks for the answer Alan, always fascinated to get a peak at the method of other artists. And of course it's hard to go wrong with Mark Farmer, one of the best inkers working in the business today. Digital inks are definitely a pretty steep learning curve at the start.
