In Excalibur there seems to be a "Saturnyne" influencing each member. Kylun's love was Sat'neen (an alternate Saturnyne), who was slain by Necrom. Kitty was wined and dined by Courtney Ross/Sat-Yr-9. Kitty even looks a little like Sat-Yr-9 in that issue, and Kylun's Sat'neen looks kind of like Kitty. Brian was the object of Saturnyne/Courtney Ross/Sat-Yr-9 desire. Kurt and Anjulie. Not sure about Meggan and Rachel, though.
Was this building to something? Seems a little too coincidental.

It wasn’t a coincidence but nor was it building to any deliberate masterplan.
In the original (Marvel UK) Captain Britain story ‘A long way from home’. Byron Bra-Dhok and Sat-Yr 9 were introduced as the evil doppelgangers of Brian Braddock and Saturnyne. Having established that neither Saturnyne or Sat-Yr 9 were from Earth 616, the obvious question was if there was an Earth 616 alternate. Chris decided it was Courtney Ross (who he created in the original CB stories). This set the pattern for using Saturnyne in the Cross Time Caper as the familiar face of the multiverse-- both anchor and barometer of omniversal change and twisted continuity.
