Writer vs penciller vs both

Post by j1jes »

I am a big fan of yours ever since the Uncanny x-men work you did that fisrt introduced me to your talent.

I noticed something about your work. It appears you only write when you also pencil the material. I don't think I've ever seen you completely write/script for a different penciler. Any particular reason? Just wondering how your great artistic mind works.

I have written both plot and script for other artists in the past in an attempt to maintain a monthly deadline but I was never really happy with the compromise. A plot can only be the starting point for a finished comic and the onus is on the penciller to rationalise countless variables. “A picture is worth a thousand word.” The bottom line is that I have never really thought of myself as a ‘writer’. I’m a visual storyteller who can bluff out the text.
