Re: Cover dedicated to Adam Hughes from Glasgow '91?
I had been asked to provide a cover for the Amazing heroes interview I gave about Excalibur just prior to the Glasgow Convention where I (and Mark Farmer) first met Adam Hughes. We had a fun time during which we jokingly ridiculed Adam about the dangers of being marginalised as a Good-Girl-Artist (o...

Re: Fan of Mœbius and/or Otomo?
I liked Akira a lot but, sacrilege to many, I was never a Moebius fan. I don’t recall what my brief on this cover was but I’m sure I was given selection of characters to include.

Re: Would you accept Gov't honours?
It’s easy to decline something you haven’t been offered but as a rule I’m not impressed by awards of any kind.
Most are given to support a particular regime/philosophy/perspective/taste/opinion, that is supported or being promoted by the award giver.

Re: Interested in Marvel's new original graphic novel line?
I don't know if you're aware that Marvel is kick-starting a new OGN line with a 110 page Avengers book by Warren Ellis and Mike McKone: XIII, No I hadn’t heard but then again I have minimal contact with any editors at Marvel and actively avoid news sites. My focus has always been on the job at hand...

Re: U.S. apperance in Chicago
As I've already said, I don’t have any definite plan or strategy. Time is passing with increasing rapidity and opportunities to pre-draw sketches are rare. I usually turn up with no expectation at the Con and do as the organisers ask-- within reason. I don't concern myself with schedules until I'm o...
Re: facebook?
I agree with Matt. While I can appreciate your enthusiasm, XIII (Do you have shares in Facebook?) I’m not convinced that your analysis offers a substantive justification. It seems to me what you describe as circular logic is simply a fear of missing out. Like the old wartime story of people joining ...
Re: facebook?
I’ve never wanted to be on the cutting edge of technological fashion, eager to own or master the newest gadget or toy. That isn’t because I’m a technophobe. I’ll admit to a degree of ‘if it ain’t broke’ sluggishness but If I’m convinced an innovation is something I can use I’ll give it a try. It is ...
Re: facebook?
I’m one of those people who have no interest in social media so never even considered having a FACEBOOK or BLOG—as is clear from my lengthy absences on the Forum I struggle to make time to contribute here (or indeed to update my own website)and the contributions I have made are due to the fact Matt ...

Re: U.S. apperance in Chicago
Sorry I made the wrong choice of Con for you Jim. Due to my physical limitations and the often restrictive drawing position available at a Con I limit my sketches to A4 (ish) pencil headshots. Most often from a ¾ angle because it offers the most interesting view and allows me to focus on the persona...

Re: Random EXCALIBUR Questions
Nigel Orpington Smythe had been the mastermind/manipulator behind Cloud Nine in the Excalibur arc, 62-65, that immediately preceded the Days of Future Yet to Come arc, 66-67. It wasn’t a significant feature of either story but I thought it an interesting example of the notion that, aside from the fa...

Re: Nightcrawler's powers
Thanks for your kind words K. Internal logic of story and character has always been crucially important to me because inconsistent characterisation or convenient/lazy use of ability/prowess pulls me out of any story. I assume the same will be true for other readers so always try to rationalise every...

Re: Nightcrawler
I’m not current on who might be available to fit any role in the MU but that is academic because my point was to introduce new characters and associations rather than continuing the same incestuous dance of ‘connecting the dots’ to create a complexity of relationships that ultimately limits growth o...

‘Fraid not! I’ll be going to Ohio in September and had considered staying over for the NYCC until I discovered the shows weren’t just a week apart as they were last year.

Re: Chronology of ClanDestine 1-5 (2008)/3-part annual story
Temporal continuity was always problematic, even before the major universe wide events that destabilised individual titles continuity for the term of a story arc, but more recently changes linger, often until another event turns back the clock. IF the ClanDestine book had continued in an unbroken ru...
