Re: A few questions, Mr Davis

JohnnyBoyB,

Have you ever read Toth's critique of Steve Rude? Rude is a phenominal artist but Toth is one of the masters andreally tears apart his story telling technique. A real insight...

Some sort of record, this many posts without someone either loosing it or a troll. mmm... i think that Mr. Davis put it best using the Hendrix description. i prefer mediocre inkers to the majority of digital stuff i've seen. Hell, that medicocre inker may end up later being the next great inker. Whi...

Jim, i'm going to have to disagree with you here. While i love seeing the pencils on a piece, inking more than makes a book. Take Tim Townsend for instance. A great inker, he's one of the few who can really make Bachalo shine (heck, Bachalo inking himself is only so-so). A great inker can take a sta...

I would have guessed that the movies would have helped the comics, but sadly it really doesn't seem to be the case. It seems that movies have spurred on the sequels, video games, and other merchandise. I think that part of it has to do with comic prices, specialty comic stores being the almost sole ...

While I've never seen a Davis H.Q. I'm quite sure that he'd be able to infuse it with a great deal of humor. If you get one you have to post it.

Keeping with the bat villainess theme, there are a couple of gorgeous Davis Poison Ivy's that I've seen posted on Comicartfans.

Personally i think comics need to adapt. Look at the popularity of manga. i'm not saying that comic styles need to go this route, but with such a variey of subjects people can find things that interest them. Also look at the increase in recent popularity of graphic novels (Pride of Bagdad and Americ...

Brian, That's a fantastic piece! I first noticed it when you posted it to CAF awhile back. Also love your Davis Excalibur piece, your Larroca colored piece (i cannot believe i missed those) and your Cockrum collection. There's a piece that Jim Warden recently put on his site that i have my eye on, i...

Cockrum, the passing of a great.

For those who haven't heard, Dave Cockrum passed away the other day. It was very shocking to come home from thanksgiving and see this horrible news. Dave and I talked a few times over at Nightscrawlers and he was always great to talk to. Cockrum's style always made me smile and laugh, it had such pe...

Vampirella

Jim Warden just posted (for sale) on his CAF page a 6 pg story of Vampirella. Gorgeous work, and just shows that Alan's such a good story teller that word balloons aren't even needed. There are a great deal of good artists out there, but Great Artists who are also Great storytellers (both visually a...

Well, I got mine at my first convention (the whole reason i went :) This was Mid Ohio Con 2003. I was one of the first in line for signing, and for a sketch! Mr. Davis was awesome! Very polite and cool to talk to (although i was very nervous, heck man was the whole reason i got into comics). Mr. Dav...

Typically I'm not a big FF, but knowing Mr. Davis was both writing and drawing...well, i couldn't resist.

And was it ever worth it! Both the art and writing were terrific. I now have to decide whether i want to pick it up in trade or just get all the issues.
